President assesses operations of ministries at Dharubaaruge following fire, meets with staff

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday visited Dharubaaruge to assess the operations of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. These ministries were temporarily relocated to Dharubaaruge after a fire damaged their office buildings. During his visit, the President met with staff members of the ministries and enquired about the operations

Speaking with the staff, the President emphasised the irreparable damage caused by the fire, noting that employees also lost personal belongings. He acknowledged the overwhelming impact this incident has had on them. The President, however, recognised the positive attitude and patience shown by the employees even in these circumstances and the support provided to restart ministry operations

The President further highlighted that efforts are being made in coordination with government agencies to normalise the office environment. He mentioned plans to increase the number of toilets, provide cafeteria services, and procure electronics, computer systems, and other necessities

President Dr Muizzu also conveyed the Government’s decision to house the three ministries in Government-owned buildings and to avoid renting office space until a permanent solution is found

During his visit, the President met with the taskforce responsible for the relocation of the ministries and senior officials from some government companies. He expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by Government companies and various institutions in helping the three ministries return to normalcy

Following his visit to Dharubaaruge, the President also stopped by Galolhu School to review preparations for resuming the suspended services of the City Council. He interacted with the staff, enquired about their needs, and assessed the progress of efforts to resume services
